Heaven on earth!

Everything about this property and the team there is amazing. From the greeting at the door on arrival, to the sumptuous food, the character of the villa itself and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Nothing was too difficult for the team. The villa is extremely well kept, and has some outstanding features. Very spacious, with spacious grounds and a massive pool that are tended to daily. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quiet but convenience place to stay outside of Galle.

Lovely lakeside villa

Just home from two weeks at Mandalay Lake Villa, and certainly didn't want to leave. Lovely house on the shores of Koggala lake. The staff do a great job looking after guests. Chintaka's Sri Lankan curry was a winner with the kids - evening after evening. Great for peace and quiet, but close to the beach and a short drive to Galle Fort. We also spent many happy hours bodyboarding at Weligama which is a short drive south down the coast.

Heavenly getaway

Mandalay Villa is a short drive away from Colombo and perfect for a quick getaway. Situated on the shores of Koggala Lake it is constantly fanned by the breezes across the lake. Beautifully styled an well appointed the accomodation comprises a very large, stylish master bedroom on the top floor and two other bedrooms at ground level and a spacious dining pavilion. Large garden areas and a great swimming pool all help make it a stunning resort. The added bonus of a little jetty from which to watch the spectacular sunsets with a sundowner at hand, there is nothing else one could wish for. The attentive and obliging service from Dulcie the housekeeper and the excellent skills of the chef made our stay a memorable one.

Lovely secluded villa - great with kids

Had a great stay for nine days with two kids (7 and 9) and even had guests over for a few days. The pool was perfect for the kids, the location secluded, the staff was super helpful and professional, and there's plenty of activities nearby, including the lake that offers fishing, island hopping and more. All in all I'd highly recommend Mandalay, and the kitchen is great for up to a few days, but anything beyond that, or anything beyond traditional Sri Lankan cuisine, and the kitchen gets monotone - at best.

Mandalay

Such a special villa in a really peaceful part of Koggala Lake. One occasionally hears the rumble of the nearby train. The staff took great care to ensure all our needs were met and nothing was too much trouble. The chef prepared the most delicious Sri Lankan meals for us - fresh fish, curries, egg hoppers and always fresh juice for breakfast. We enjoyed a lovely boat ride where we visited an old Buddhist temple and cinnamon island, all from the convenience of the villa’s private jetty. We even saw some crocodiles. This was our fourth visit to Sri Lanka and Mandalay definitely stands out as a favourite. A beautiful colonial villa and grounds.

Beautiful getaway villa!

We stayed at Mandalay at the end of a two week tour of Sri Lanka and could not have had it any better. The location of the villa is superb the team looking after you are very very helpful and the food is delicious. Would definitely reccommend this villa for a good relaxing getaway. Thank you to everyone who looked after us!

Best of both worlds - on a large tranquil lake and next to Sri Lanka's stunning beaches.

The villa is located on Koggala Lake and only 5 minutes from the beaches - 10 minutes from Weligama and 40 minutes to Galle Fort. The three-bedroom (one large master bedroom, one twin and one double room) villa is set on the lake with its own boating dock where a local fisherman can take you to visit the nearby Cinnamon Island and Spice Island which we highly recommend. The fisherman also took our children fishing to their absolute delight and the fish was then placed on the grill by the in-villa chef. The villa represents a simple and relaxing way of living. The villa has a large pool in the heart of the property so if you are travelling with children it is great to watch them from the outdoor dining area or even from the top floor master bedroom. The two younger children in cots upstairs under the large oversized mosquito nets, whilst our younger two slept in the twin rooms downstairs. It was an adventure for all the family and the convenient location meant that we could pop out to nearby restaurants or spend the day in Galle Fort.

Ultimate relaxing family holiday!

We had such an amazing time at Mandalay. The staff were so lovely and looked after us without bombarding. The pool was the perfect temperature and we enjoyed 7 nights to just relax, read our books, swim, catch a tuk tuk to the local restaurants and beaches and basically have a lovely, relaxing time (as relaxed as it can be with 3 children!). Our girls are 4 and 6 and relatively strong swimmers, the pool is divine however it was only 6 year old who could stand in it so something to be mindful of. We had monkeys leap from tree to tree around us which was lots of fun plus there were a few local dogs hanging around but they were lovely and very relaxed and unobtrusive. The Chef is amazing - much better at the local Sri Lankan cuisine than the western style so we ended up doing it the Sri Lankan way for breakfast lunch and dinner! Delicious! Huge room upstairs and downstairs had two single beds that actually fit our 3 (king size singles). Internet / Wifi was available and we took our Apple TV which was great although they had plenty of DVDs to choose from. All in all I can highly recommend the Mandalay Villa - we had a great stay!

The most relaxing week ever

We spent 6 nights at Mandalay villa and we could not had better stay for our first time to SriLanka. Ancient local character house in perfect harmony with Koggala lake. Gorgeous by all means. My kids and us were spoiled by chef Chinthaka with all his amazing dishes, a true travel to SriLanka cuisine. The staff wad extremly helpfull and always ready to make our stay a dream. Thanks Dalsi, Nimal and Peyanesa for being there. We had friends for dinner in Mandalay and chef Chinthaka suggested to have a local traditional show with fireworks: it was just mind blowing for all of us. I recommand it strongly. Lot of unforgettable memories for all of us. We will be back soon!!!!

An epitome of Sri Lankan style of architecture, Mandalay is set in the sleepy village of Kathaluwa on Lake Koggala. Located about 700 metres to Koggala Beach, the villa captures spectacular views across the water to the mystical, uninhabited island of Madol Doova. It is also at convenient distance from the historical city of Galle, which is home to the Galle fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The villa offers the perfect location to enjoy a typical Sri Lankan rural experience while being at an easy distance from local attraction and beautiful beaches.

Cancellation Policy

* For cancellations more than 60 days before the arrival date 80% of the total rental amount, minus a USD 150 administration fee, will be refunded.
* For cancellations and/or amendments 30 - 60 days before the arrival date, 50% of the final booking amount, minus USD 150 in administration fees, will be refunded.
* For cancellations 1 - 29 days before the arrival date and for no -shows, no refund will be made.
* During peak periods, 30 days will be added to all cancellation periods.
* A refund may be offered, if the Villa is re-let for the same duration and at the same rates.
* Any amendments that reduce the total rental amount will be treated as a partial cancellation and may be subject to the cancellation fees stated above.
* Any amendments that involve the booking of another property altogether, will be treated as a cancellation of the original booking and the creation of a new one.
* In the unlikely event a villa booking is cancelled by the owner, the owner will attempt to secure a booking in an alternative property of the same standard, at the same rates. If this is not possible, a full refund will be made.

Payment Terms

* Prices quoted are in US Dollars, are listed by the Villa Owners and are subject to change without prior notice. However, once a deposit or payment has been received, the prices will not be amended for the dates of the rental.
* All payments are to be made in US dollars unless an exchange rate for other currencies has been agreed on prior to the payment being made.
* Bookings more than 30 days before the date of arrival will require a 50% deposit to confirm the booking. The full payment must be received 30 days (60 days if peak period) before the date of arrival. No reminder will be sent and failure to pay on time may result in a loss of the booking.
* Bookings made within 30 days of the date (60 days if peak period) of arrival, will require full payment.
* Once the deposit or payment has been received, a final booking confirmation will be sent.
* A security deposit equivalent of one night rent will be payable in US Dollars, in cash, on arrival at the villa. This deposit will be used against any damages or charges incurred during the stay. The difference or full amount will be returned in USD on the day of departure. If the charges cannot be determined at the time of departure, the Owner is entitled to withhold a reasonable estimate from your security deposit and will return any balance as soon as the actual cost has been determined.

Description

Beautiful lakeside villa

Mandalay is a beautiful villa which is set on a peaceful area of the massive Koggala Lake about 15 minutes from the historic town of Galle. The main house has 2 rooms with double and a twin, all with ensuite bathrooms and air conditioning. The master suite is located upstairs and has floor to doors ceilings that open fully to reveal spectacular views of the landscaped garden and the lake. Besides, there is also a private terrace to relax and soak up the brilliant outdoors.

The living area of Mandalay villa is located in a separate pavilion overlooking the pool. The main living area comprises of an open sided area overlooking the lush lawn. The area houses the dining table that can seat ten. Besides, it is comfortably fitted to allow for relaxing and socializing. In addition, there is a garden pagola full of cushions with spectacular views across the lake. The local fishermen bring their catch to the private pontoon. You can purchase fresh fish and have the cook prepare you a sumptuous lunch or dinner.

Outdoors, the main attraction of Mandalay villa is the soothing swimming pool, perfect to have a refreshing dip. It is decorated with comfortable sun loungers to relax over a drink. The villa is serviced by a cook, housekeeper, gardener, security guard and a 24 hour management staff. The quiet village in which the villa is located plays host to the famous Giniwella temple and the ancient Kathaluwa temple known for its Buddhist murals. It is also close to a 5 star spa and fabulous beaches. A stay here allows you the option of venturing out to the surf followed by a massage and then retreating back into the peace and tranquillity that it offers.
